Evelyn Flynn Phillips

Services for Evelyn Flynn Phillips, of Brookhaven, are 10 a.m.Monday, Sept. 4, at St. Francis of Assisi Church with burial inRiverwood Memorial Park. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge ofarrangements.

Mrs. Phillip, 91, died Aug. 31, 2006 at Kings Daughters MedicalCenter. She was born in Alexandria, La., on March 7, 1915, toDaniel Flynn and Ida Brent Maddux Flynn.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Francis of AssisiCatholic Church. She was also a member of the National Mah JongLeague and the Ladies of St. Francis

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, JohnRaymond Phillips.

Survivors are her son, Paul R. Phillips and his wife, Ellie, ofBrookhaven; her daughter, Carol Phillips Smith and her husband,Bobby, of Brookhaven; her brother-in-law, Tom Phillips, ofBrookhaven; her sister-in-law, Margaret Flynn, of Brookhaven; hergrandchildren, Evelyn “Flynn” Phillips, Anne Houston Cupit, MaggieCupit, Phillip Beeson, Andrea Waldrop and her husband, Terry, JohnBeeson and his wife, Dawn, Stephanie Williams and her husband,Kevin, and Daniel Beeson and his wife, Regina; 15great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Building Fund.

Lavera G. Ward

Services for Lavera G. Ward, of Silver Creek, were 2 p.m.Sunday, Sept. 3, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with burial inHepzibah Cemetery.

Mrs. Ward, 79, died Sept. 1, 2006 in Laurel. She was born inSimpson County on Dec. 31, 1926, to William A. Sullivan and AnnieHolmes Sullivan.

She was a retired teacher from Lawrence County Schools. She wasa member of Monticello Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, TheronLavelle Ward; her brother, and her sister.

Survivors are her son, Lavelle Ward, of Silver Creek; herdaughters, Patty Robinson, of Laurel, and Twyla Oakes, ofMonticello; her brother, Curtis Ray Sullivan, of Gulfport; hersister, Ruth Bridges, of Prentiss, six grandchildren; and fourgreat-grandchildren.
