Fisher wins Miss Miss. College crown

Brookhaven native Kayla Fisher was crowned “Miss MississippiCollege” Thursday night in Swor Auditorium on the school’s campusin Clinton.

The pageant is a preliminary contest in the Miss Mississippischolarship pageant. There were six contestants.

“I was really shocked and surprised,” said Fisher. “I didn’texpect to win. But I’m very excited about Miss Mississippi.”

Fisher will go on to compete in the state pageant in July inVicksburg.

Fisher, who danced and tumbled to a song called “Explosive” forher talent in the competition, said she will more than likely usethe same dance routine in state pageant that she used in the MissMississippi College contest. She did say, however, that she mightvary it just a bit.

The 2005-2006 Junior Miss winner said the best part of thepageant was the learning experience.

“It was something new to me. I’m not used to doing things likethat,” said Fisher. “I was the only freshman in the pageant, anddidn’t know anyone.”

Fisher, the daughter of Rob and Nancy Fisher of Brookhaven,graduated from Brookhaven High School in 2006, where she was amember of the National Honor Society, a cheerleader, and a memberof Showstoppers dance team, and the tennis team.
