Marshall nets game-winner

WESSON — Credit Co-Lin center Christian Marshall for making theright play at the right time. Marshall, a 6-10 sophomore fromJackson, nailed the game-winning shot with 2.3 seconds left to playto lead the Wolves to a 54-52 South Division win over the PearlRiver Wildcats Thursday night in Mullen Gymnasium.

Marshall finished the game with 8 points and 7 rebounds.

The Wolves improve to 14-4 on the season and 7-1 in the SouthDivision. Co-Lin travels to Southwest Monday to meet the Bears in adoubleheader, beginning one hour earlier at 5 p.m. with the womenfollowed by the men.

Pearl River fell to 5-3 in the South and 11-8 overall.

At halftime, the game was tied 28-all. In the second half, theWolves outscored the Wildcats 26-24 to secure the win.

“It was a very physical game,” said Co-Lin men’s coach DennisSims after the win. “We fouled too much. We were up 11 pointsbecause we were guarding and taking open shots. Turnovers were theoverall reason why the game was close.”

Sophomore forward Greg Truvillion fired in 18 points to lead theWolves. Anthony Wilcher fired in 11 points, pulled down 5 reboundsand had 4 assists.

“It was a tough game,” said Pearl River coach Ed Walley. “Welooked out of it early. We changed our defense. We were able tomake the game closer. But Co-Lin managed to get their shots. Co-Linattacked our zone, which made us use other schemes. This was abattle between two teams wanting to win.”

Powering the Wildcats with a game-high 27 points and 8 reboundswas forward Wesley Jones. Brandon Payne finished with 13 points and5 rebounds.
