WESSON — The host Co-Lin Wolves are on their way to thesemifinals of the MACJC State Tournament today after putting awaythe Mississippi Delta Trojans 70-56 Tuesday night in opening-roundmen’s basketball action at Mullen Gymnasium.

In the other men’s games played yesterday, Itawamba eliminatedHinds 74-62, Holmes stopped Pearl River 78-72 and Northwest bouncedGulf Coast 87-79.

Today’s semifinals include women’s and men’s action. TheNortheast women meet Itawamba at 1:30 p.m., the Northwest mentackle Holmes at 3:15, the Co-Lin women battle Miss. Delta at 6followed by the Co-Lin men squaring off against Itawamba at7:45.

Co-Lin 70, Miss. Delta 56

Sophomore forward Greg Truvillion powered the Wolves with 19points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The 6-foot-8 Lansing, Mich.,native was a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line.

“We will have our hands full when we play tonight,” said Co-Linmen’s coach Dennis Sims of the matchup with Itawamba. Sims said hewas pleased with the team’s defense in the first half.

The game was close in the first half until the 3:49 mark whenthe Wolves made their move on the Trojans. With a 26-22 lead,Co-Lin’s Charles Lewis and Anthony Wilcher nailed back-to-backtreys to give the hosts a 9-point, 32-23, lead at the half.

The Trojans cut the deficit to 7 points, twice in the openingminutes of the second half but that was as close as Miss. Deltawould get. The Wolves were leading 34-27 when Christian Marshalland Truvillion responded at the 17:49 mark with back-to-back fieldgoals for a 10-point, 38-28 lead.

At the 9:43 mark, Miss. Delta head coach Derrick Fears wasassessed a technical foul after one of his players was charged withentering the game with being called in by an official. Truvillionnetted all four freebies to push the lead to 17 points, 58-41. With7:58 left to play, Co-Lin pushed its lead to 20 points, 63-43, on afield goal and free throw from freshman forward AnthonyWilcher.

Contributing to the Co-Lin win with 16 points (including 3treys) and 5 assists was Wilcher. Marshall netted 10 points.

Miss. Delta (12-12) got 14 points from sophomore guard DeszerHarris of Memphis, Tenn. Antoine Taylor netted 13 points. Finishingwith 10 points was Dexter Williams.

Itawamba 74, Hinds 62

Leading Itawamba (23-3) with 17 points was Tim Green. AnthonyBrock netted 16 points followed by Justin Duke with 10 points.

Hinds ((14-12) got 11 points from James Burkes followed by AveryPurvis with 10 points.

Holmes 78, Pearl River 72

Richard Worth paced Holmes (18-6) with 21 points. Jeremy Cablescored 19 points. Following with 11 points was Adrian Moore. JamariGunn finished with 10 points.

High-scorer of the game was Pearl River’s Wesley Jones with 32points. Brandon Payne netted 12 points. The Wildcats finish 15-11on the season.

Northwest 87, Gulf Coast 79

Gulf Coast (20-6) was led by Henry Salter’s 24 points. Scoring12 points was Luther Suggs. Lee Trebotich had 11 points followed byRonald Douglas with 10 points.

Justin Nabors’ 26 points directed Northwest (15-11). BobbyDillard netted 23 points. Scoring 16 points was Brandon Byarsfollowed by Danny Forbes with 13 points.
