Juanita Lewis Thornhill

Juanita Lewis Thornhill quietly went to be with our Lord, March3, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer and otherhealth-related issues.

She was born in Lawrence County on Nov. 12, 1927, to Robert H.Lewis and Dezzie Foster Lewis. Ms. Thornhill was a member of FairRiver Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities and wasalso a choir member.

She had many hobbies. She had a craft for needlework, enjoyedcooking for and spending time with her family and many friends,most of whom were lifelong. And though she never killed a deer, shereally enjoyed hunting for them, alongside her late husband. Mostof her married life she and Mr. Thornhill resided in the Fair Rivercommunity.

For the past year and a half, she had been a resident of SilverCross Nursing Home, where she was treated with love, care andrespect. She loved living there. Her family will never be able toshow their complete gratitude to this wonderful staff.

Ms. Thornhill was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,George Ray Thornhill; and her two brothers, Arlist Lewis and OscarLewis.

She was the loving mother of two daughters, Lavon ThornhillWhite and her husband Ben, and Marilyn Ray Thornhill Welch and herhusband Billy Gene; her cherished grandchildren, Jamie Ray Whiteand his special friend Ollie Thompson, Robin White Smith and herhusband the Rev. Ron Smith, Tonia Welch Price and her husbandMonroe, and Theresa Welch Wells; her 10 great-grandchildren, RyanWhite and his wife Mindy, Cody White, Emily White, Jake Smith,Samuel Smith, Gabriel Smith, Austin Price, Alana Price, HaileyWells and Keith Wells; two sisters, Eudell Howington, and LaverneFreeman and her husband Rabon; her sister-in-law, Terah LewisAlbritton; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers are Ryan White, Cody White, Jake Smith, AustinPrice, Monroe Price and Ron Smith. Junior pallbearers are SamuelSmith, Gabriel Smith and Keith Wells. Honorary pallbearer is JamieRay White.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be madeto Fair River Baptist Church, toward a memorial pew for the newsanctuary.

Visitation is Monday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Riverwood FamilyFuneral Service. The service will be Tuesday, March 6, at 2 p.m. atthe funeral home chapel, with burial in Fair River Baptist ChurchCemetery.
