A woman was killed in a Wednesday night crash in Lawrence Countyat the intersection of Highway 43 and Highway 184, authoritiessaid.

Karen Herring, 54, was killed around 9:50 p.m. when her 1997Ford Escort “failed to stop at a stop sign and struck anembankment,” said Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol Sgt. RustyBoyd, public relations officer.

“She had a Florida license, but I think she was living in NewHebron,” he said.

The cause of the crash is still unknown, he said.

In a separate incident, Highway 27 south of Monticello was blockedfor a few hours Thursday afternoon after a loaded chip truckoverturned around 11 a.m. and dumped its load in the road.

There were no injuries.
