Wesson Cobras outscore Sumrall in offensive show

SUMRALL — The Wesson Cobras (3-0) and Sumrall Bobcats (0-2)combined for 717 yards of total offense in a spectacular shootoutFriday evening. with the Cobras outracing the Bobcats to the finishline 42-39.
Two contrasting styles were battling in Lamar County as theCobras grind -it-out style met face-to-face with the big-playSumrall offense. On paper the Cobras were outmanned, yet the youngWesson team was once again able to capitalize on four Bobcatturnovers and turn those into 21 points.
“The biggest thing is that we won,” said a thrilled Cobra headcoach Tommy Clopton. “This was an emotional rollercoaster with itbeing back and forth and I’m proud of our guys for rising up to thechallenge.”
Wesson did not get off the bus long before Sumrall’s big playback Melvin Fennell struck with the first of two 50-yard touchdownscampers. Fennell took the counter play 56 yards to put the Bobcatsup 6-0 at the 10:01 mark if the first quarter. Fennell piled up 173yards on 10 carries in the game. The Ryan Knight PAT put theBobcats up 7-0.
The Cobras rattled off 3 first quarter touchdowns to the tune of21 points the rest of the first quarter. The first came with 5:17remaining as Roy Williams cashed in from 1 yard out. Chris Finknailed his first of 6 PAT’s to go perfect on the night and tie thegame 7-7.
