Brook’s 12-1 team of 1997 plans reunion

It was 1997 and the Brookhaven Panthers were enjoying one oftheir best-ever seasons. After a perfect 10-0 record in the regularseason, including a Region 6-4A championship win, 23-13, over theSouth Pike Eagles, people were celebrating the accomplishment.

Next stop was the state playoffs where the Panthers beatD’Iberville, 28-14 and Picayune 27-10 before falling 49-14 atNortheast Jones in the South State championship game.

Members of that ’97 team want to relive the memories next week,during the homecoming festivities at BHS. Former Gridiron Clubpresident Danny Hammond wants to hear from team members and arrangea gathering with former BHS head coach Greg Wall.

Digging through the sports files discovered some moreinformation about the 1997 squad that finished 12-1. That markwasn’t improved upon until 2004 when the Panthers won the statetitle and posted a 14-1 worksheet.
