Enterprise rallies past McComb 7-6

The Enterprise Lady Jackets welcomed the McComb Lady Tigers fThursday night for a slowpitch softball matchup. Trailing by asmany as 4 runs early in the game, the Lady Jackets fought back toclaim a heart-stopping 7-6 win over the visiting Lady Tigers.

Enterprise (4-2) travels to West Lincoln Tuesday. McComb (2-4)host Bogue Chitto tonight.

The 100-plus fans in attendance got their money’s worth and thensome. The two teams combined for 13 errors and 19 runners left onbase, despite both teams exhibited some outstanding defensivestoppages during the game. In a doubleheader last week at McComb,the Lady Jackets beat McComb 2-1 and 1-0.

“McComb has improved tremendously, since Coach (Cody) Hall hastaken over their program,” said Enterprise head coach Steve Sasser.”Their kids played hard tonight. We beat them by one run twice lastweek.”

The Lady Tigers got off to a good start, taking a 4-0 lead inthe top of the first. Emily Cothern reached on an error. DanelleFarnum walked. Casey Brumfield singled to load the bases. ChelseaCannon’s doubled scored Cothern and Farnum. A double by LaurenMabile plated Brumfield and Cannon.

Enterprise scored 1 run in the bottom of the first, but stilltrailed 4-1. Karla Hux walked and later scored on a fielding errorby McComb.

“We got the big hits early in the game,” said Coach Hall. “They(Enterprise) got those same hits late in the game.”

Sasser’s crew began chipping away at their deficit in the fifth.Kaitlyn Moak reached third on a 3-base error by the Lady Tigers.Hux’s sacrifice fly scored Moak. Greer walked. Sam Richardsonsingled and moved to second on a fielding error. Orr’s sacrificefly pushed Greer across homeplate.

Trailing 6-3 in the sixth, Enterprise’s Ann Marie Cole andHannah Russell each scored an unearned run; aided by a pair ofMcComb miscues.

In the seventh, Greer singled. With 1 out, Orr singled. KolbiLewis singled to load the bases. Sarah Burke’s base hit scoredGreer and Orr for the winning runs.

“We have a lot of work to do before district play starts in afew weeks,” Coach Sasser said following the game. “We play at WestLincoln Tuesday and host Bogue Chitto Thursday. We will see what weare made off before district play.”

Greer, Orr and Lewis each had a pair of singles to lead the LadyJacket attack. Brumfield had 3 singles for McComb.

Orr (4 BB, 2 K’s) picked up the win, while Cannon (6 BB, 0 K’s)took the loss.

Enterprise defeated McComb 11-0 in the preliminary JV game.
