George Rabb Ferrell

Services for George Rabb Ferrell, of Brookhaven, are 1 p.m.Saturday, Nov. 15, at New Prospect Baptist Church with burial inthe church cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Brookhaven FuneralHome on Natchez Drive.

Mr. Ferrell, 88, died Nov. 13, 2008, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. He was born on May 29, 1920, to Albert Ernest Ferrell Sr.and Jessie Rabb Ferrell.

Mr. Ferrell was born and raised in Monterey and was one of fiveboys and two girls. He served in the U.S. Army during World War IIand married his wife of 66 years, Pearl, on Feb. 6, 1944, in Rome,Ga. After the war, they moved to Brookhaven, where he worked in theoil industry at Brookhaven Field for 40 years, retiring fromChevron at 62.

After retirement, he and his wife served as volunteer staff atCentral Hill Baptist Retreat in Kosciusko for 14 years and didvolunteer mission trips through the Southern Baptist Convention formany years. He will be remembered for his faith and service to God,his love of family and his particular “gift of gab” entrancing allwho listened with stories of growing up in the rural back woods ofLouisiana and pioneering the oil fields of Brookhaven.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his four brothers; andhis two sisters.

Survivors are his wife, Pearl Ferrell, of Brookhaven; hischildren, Larry Ferrell and wife, Mildred, of Magee, GlendaRobinson and husband, Danny, of Brookhaven, Lonnie Ferrell andwife, Judy, of Brookhaven, Keith Ferrell and wife, Sherry, ofHammond, La.; his 13 grandchildren; and numerousgreat-grandchildren.
