BA girls dump JA, boys fall

JACKSON – Sophomore center Anna Katelyn Mangold poured in 18points and grabbed 11 rebounds in leading the Brookhaven AcademyLady Cougars to a 50-33 Monday night victory over the JacksonAcademy Lady Raiders. Freshman Laura Beth Wright chipped in 12points and 5 rebounds as Coach Barry Gray’s girls raised theirrecord to 5-3 on the season.

In the varsity boys game, Jackson Academy shaved BrookhavenAcademy 59-57, powered by Collin Applewhite’s 26 points. He alsohad 5 steals.

Brookhaven Academy resumes play Thursday night at CentrevilleAcademy.

The Lady Cougars (5-3) shot 43 percent from the field in beatingJA. They outrebounded the hosts 37-18, as Nicole Smith claimed 6rebounds and Wright 5.

The Lady Raiders (4-5) got 12 points from Lindsey Thompson. Theytrailed 24-17 at halftime.

The Cougars (5-2) watched Blake Brown’s late jumper lift JA tothe narrow win. A trey by Applewhite had gained the Raiders a 57-57deadlock.

Jake Reed collected 15 points and 11 rebounds for Coach DaleWatts in a losing effort. Blaine Roberts and Sidney Chaffin eachscored 14 points. Chaffin had 8 rebounds.

Guard Jamison Powell dished out 10 assists to his BA teammates.The Cougars sacked 54 percent of their field goal attempts and 66percent of their 3-point goals, going 6 for 9.

BA outrebounded the Raiders 29-2 but the Cougars had 20turnovers.

The unbeaten Raiders (6-0) held a 32-31 halftime lead. They led45-41 entering the final frame.

Brown finished with 10 points and 7 rebounds as the Raiderssacked 43 percent of their field goal attempts.
