Hornets stay unbeaten

BOGUE CHITTO – The undefeated Loyd Star Hornets swept a varsitybasketball doubleheader from the Bogue Chitto Bobcats Tuesday nightin R.L. (Bob) Calhoun Gymnasium.

Glenn Thomas and Julious Whittaker pumped in 11 points apiece tolead the Loyd Star boys to a 66-42 win over the Bobcats.

In varsity girls action, Shannon Chester fired in a game-high 23points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had 5 assists to direct the LadyHornets to a 55-50 victory over the Lady ‘Cats.

Both teams compete in the Lincoln County Round-Robin Tournamentto be held at Loyd Star beginning Thursday and continuing throughSaturday. Four games will be played each night.

Loyd Star 66, Bogue Chitto 42

“It was a good ballgame,” said Gene (Moochie) Britt. “We managedto handle Bogue Chitto’s pressure. We managed to get everyoneinvolved. Everyone played hard.”

The Loyd Star boys (6-0) got 10 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assistsfrom Ashton Fox. Thomas pulled down 6 rebounds.

“Loyd Star outplayed us,” said Bogue Chitto first-year headcoach Curt Crain. “They are better than us as of right now. But wewill bounce back.”

Mike Harris led the winless Bobcats (0-5) with 9 points. JustinLondon netted 8 points and grabbed 3 rebounds. Tops off thebackboards was Josh Graham with 5 rebounds.

Loyd Star 55, Bogue Chitto 50

The ‘Cats (4-1) led for three quarter before the Lady Hornets(6-0) came back in the final frame for a 20-12 run and the comebackwin.

“We figured out how the win in the fourth quarter,” said LoydStar girls coach Billy Vaughn. “Bogue Chitto was ready to play.Bogue Chitto is well coached. We were not focused the first threequarters. We are glad to get the win, especially at BogueChitto.”

Adding support for the Loyd Star girls was center Haley Soneswith 15 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Collecting 10 reboundswas Erica Smith. Leah Britt led with 5 steals.

“We played sloppy,” said Bogue Chitto girls coach ChristiTerrell. “We did not hustle the whole game. Loyd Star outplayed us.There were times that our heads were not in the game.”

The ‘Cats got 17 points from Aneshia Dillon. Darcy Miller netted11 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, made 3 steals and had 3 assists.Kelli Howard finished with 7 points, 10 rebounds and made 5steals.

Junior high action

The Bogue Chitto boys clipped Loyd Star 39-33.

Leading the Bobcats with 14 points was Germie Martin followed byBrice Roberts with 6 points.

Loyd Star was led by Hunter Hooge with 14 points. Scoring 11points was Tobias Dillion.

The Loyd Star girls stopped Bogue Chitto 23-20, powered by ShayBanks with 7 points. Scoring 6 each were Natalie Smith and NatalieKeene.

Bogue Chitto got 7 points from Marshanikique Blackwell, followedby Rheagan Welch with 6 points.
