Franklin County shuts out Jefferson Co. twice

BUDE – The Franklin County Bulldogs collected two 10-0 shutoutsTuesday evening, as FC pitchers Colton Laird and Phillip Dillonstruck out 11 batters to notch a pair of 5-inning victories.

The Bulldogs (4-3, 4-0) travel to Loyd Star Saturday at 11, fora key non-division contest.

“Both our pitchers pitched well, and our team played OK ,” saidFC head baseball coach Brent Calcote about the doubleheader sweepof Region 7-3A member Jefferson County.

In game one, FC senior Ryan Williamson got things started with a3-run homer to lift Franklin County to a 3-0 lead. Williamsonfollowed his third inning blast in the fourth frame with asacrifice fly that gave FCHS a 5-0 lead.

Jordan Hunt, Franklin County’s fleet flooted senior leftfielderadded two singles for 2 RBI, and had four stolen bases. Juniorcenterfielder DeHendret Collins added two singles and two stolenbases.

Laird, a junior, fanned 11 in four innings of work, limiting theTigers to one hit in the contest.

Game two, featured a full dose of Franklin County seniorsouthpaw Phillip Dillon, who struck 11 out and picked one batteroff in four innings of action. Dillon allowed one hit.

Colton Laird led all FC batters with a triple and single for twoRBI in the victory. Kin Mullins, Calvin Robinson, Justin Smallwood,and Preston Shelton each added a single.

Franklin County has outscored its last four opponents by a scoreof 57-3. The Bulldogs are riding a 4-game winning streak.
