Services for Ella Henderson, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m.Wednesday, July 1, at Mt. Wade M.B. Church in Brookhaven withburial in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brookhaven. Williams Mortuary is incharge of arrangements.

Visitation is Tuesday from 1 until 7 p.m. at the church withfamily present from 6 until 7 p.m.

Mrs. Henderson, 67, died June 26, 2009, at King’s DaughtersMedical Center in Brookhaven. She was born in Alexandria, La., onFeb. 26, 1942, to Freddie Johnson Sr. and Ethel Mae Johnson.

She was a 1959 graduate of Peabody High School in Alexandria anda 1964 graduate of Grambling College, now Grambling StateUniversity, with a bachelor’s degree in music education. Mrs.Henderson retired from teaching in Brookhaven Public Schools after29 years of service. She was a member of Mt. Wade M.B. Church formore than 40 years, where she served as the church musician untilher recent illness.

Preceding her in death was her father.

Survivors are her husband, Brookhaven Police Chief Arlustra”Pap” Henderson, of Brookhaven; her mother, Ethel Mae Johnson, ofBrookhaven; her children, Nicole Wise and husband, Shane, ofDesoto, Texas, and Roderick Henderson and wife, Stephanie, ofBrookhaven; a stepdaughter, Tjuana Tanner and husband, Patrick, ofAllen, Texas; her four grandchildren, Celine, Auston, Jalen andRoderick II; a brother, Freddie Johnson Jr., of Alexandria; amother-in-law, Christine Henderson, of Brookhaven; her devotedsisters-in-law, Dorothy and Jerry Henderson, of Brookhaven; abrother-in-law, Henry Henderson, of Brookhaven; and a host ofnieces, nephews and other relatives.
