Services for Edward Joseph Cross, of Brookhaven, formerly of LosAngeles, Calif., are 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at New JerusalemM.B. Church in Brookhaven with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery inBrookhaven.

Visitation is Friday from 1 until 5 p.m. with family presentfrom 7:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Williams Mortuary in Brookhaven.

Mr. Cross, 79, died Jan. 6, 2010, at his residence. He was bornin Los Angeles on May 7, 1931, to Edward Cross and FlorenceCross.

He was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Los Angeles andthe University of California at Los Angeles. He retired afterhaving worked as a teacher at Chino Prison for Men in Chino,Calif., for 23 years. Mr. Cross was a member of Bryant Temple inLos Angeles.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his threesiblings.

Survivors are his wife, Elise Smith Cross, of Brookhaven; hissons, Gerald Phillips, of Altadena, Calif., and wife, Clemmie;Darryl Phillips and wife, Rose, of Walnut, Calif.; a daughter,Cassandra Cross, of Dallas, Texas; his four grandchildren; his twostepsons, Eddie Johnson, of Brookhaven, and Derrick Cross, ofAtlanta, Ga.; a brother-in-law, Frank Lewis, of Brookhaven; and ahost of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
