About 600 Entergy customers were without power and two peoplewere sent to the emergency room with minor injuries Friday nightwhen a vehicle collided with a telephone pole on Dr. Martin L. KingJr. Drive, officials said.
King’s Daughters Medical Center officials said driver Wanda Allisonand her passenger, Jason Green, were taken to the hospital byambulance where they were treated and released. Brookhaven FireDepartment was called in to cut the two out of the car, which wasresting upside down in the middle of the road.
Brookhaven Police Department Capt. Bobby Bell said it looked asthough the Pontiac Grand Am Allison was driving hit a telephonepole just south of the intersection of MLK Drive and Ash Street, then flipped over into the street several feet away. The impactbroke the telephone pole, but left it standing, and knocked outpower to much of the east side of Brookhaven.
Entergy Customer Accounts Manager Kenny Goza said the power wentoff when the accident occurred around 10 p.m. and stayed out formost customers east of MLK Drive out to the Highway 84 bypass forabout four hours. The utility pole had to be replaced onsite.
“We had to replace it, and get everything back like it’s supposedto be,” Goza said. “That’s why it took four hours.”
Goza said some customers may have had their power back earlierrather than later, but that the last ones had their electricityback by 2 a.m.
