Bogue Chitto brings home South State powerlifting title

Fresh from winning the Class 1A South State PowerliftingChampionship, the Bogue Chitto Bobcats seek a bigger prize nextmonth in the State Championship finals. The event will be heldApril 17, at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.

“I am proud of our guys for working as hard as they have in theweight room,” said BC powerlifting coach Chad Norton. “It paid offfor them at South State.”

Bogue Chitto senior Byron Kersee set a South State record inwinning the 181-pound weight class. His total poundage in the benchpress, dead lift and squat was 1,075 pounds, including a record 525in the dead lift.

Also placing first in the South were Bogue Chitto’s Keith Wells(123 class) with 555 pounds, Tyler Saucier (148) with 840 pounds,and Shane Lewis (308) with 1,100 pounds.

Placing second for the Bobcats were Reid Bales (132) with 750pounds, Colton McClendon (165) with 1,050, including a record 445dead lift; Keith Arnold (275) with 900, and super heavyweight CoryWells with 925.

Third place went to Robert Bonds (165) with 825, and Tevin Tobias(242) with 920. Fourth place went to Shiloh Martin (132) with 675.Zach Dillon also competed for BC.

The Bobcats amassed 56 points in winning the South State title.Nanih Waiya was second with 42 points and Ethel was third with36.
