Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there! Mothers, youhave my permission to take the day off and enjoy being pampered.After all you do for everyone else, you deserve it! Special lovegoes out to my mother, Judy Wilson, and my grandmothers, BerniceWilson and Ann Weeks, who are all beyond special and invaluable tome.
The Lincoln County Relay for Life was held last weekend at theBrookhaven Exchange Club Park. Although the weather wasuncooperative, a huge crowd still showed up to support the relay.With more than 20 teams participating, the Lincoln County RelayCommittee was able to make a sizeable donation to the AmericanCancer Society to promote its cancer research programs.
The Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church team enjoyed greatsuccess this year. The team held several fundraisers, including abike-a-thon, giving away a quilt donated by the Community Crafters,and a salad luncheon. Team members offered their sincereappreciation to all of those who assisted in raising money for theworthy cause that is the Relay for Life.
Last Sunday, Pleasant Grove UMC pastor Bro. Mike Evans presidedover a candlelit service in honor of those who are currently sickor who have defeated various sicknesses and in memory of thosechurch members who have passed away. Although it was an emotionalservice, it was a time to remember those people and theircontributions to the church and the community.
With summer on fast approach, Pleasant Grove is already planningits annual one-day Vacation Bible School activities for June 5.Children from age 3 to the sixth grade are invited to attend andenjoy “Egypt: Joseph’s Journey from Prison to Palace.” Volunteersare still needed. This year’s VBS director is Marilyn Wilson.
Harmony Baptist Church is also preparing for summer activities.They will be holding CPR certification classes during July andencourage those who are interested to sign up. The only cost willbe the mandatory student book, which is $8. For more information,contact Harmony’s pastor, Bro. Owen King at 601-833-7870.
Local mission workers Jack and Jill Foster will also be busy thissummer as they continue their ministry with the Navajo in NewMexico. They are assisting in youth and adult ministry at RockSprings Church and coordinating mission teams to minister to theNavajo in the areas of Rock Springs and Gallup. They will also beleading VBS activities and various other spiritual growthactivities for the Navajo during the summer months.
The Fosters report that God is blessing their ministry and theministry at Rock Springs. They ask for continued prayers for theirministry and for the Navajo people. Other prayer requests for thisweek include Bro. Phillip Heidelberg, Margie Calcote, and GabbyMcCormick.
Happy birthday wishes go out to Gabby McCormick, Cathy Bridge andVewanna Nations.
