Lady Bobcat seniors lead into season

Team unity, desire and competition will be the key teamstrengths as the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats kick off their slowpitchsoftball season August 14, at the McComb Tournament, coachessaid.

The Lady Bobcats will have four seniors contributing leadership inDarcy Miller, Josie Porter, Bradi Davis and Toy Smith.

“We have everyone returning,” said Bogue Chitto head coach ScottLeggett. “We have four seniors on the squad that can provideleadership for the team.”

Leggett, 35, will be starting his eighth season at the helm. TheLady Bobcats hope to improve on an 18-14 record last year and a 3-1record in district.

The Lady Bobcats has all of their returning starters coming back tohelp in the field: Miller at left-center field, Porter atshortstop, Davis at second base, Smith at infield or outfield,Kaylie Crosby at catcher, Rheagan Welch at third base, KerriMcGehee at pitcher, Adrienne Wallace at leftfield, Mattie Avants atright-center field and Alexis Givens at first base.

Bogue Chitto did not lose anyone to graduation last year. The LadyBobcats hope to make an impact this season as they strive to make areturn trip to the slowpitch State Championships.

“I hope to have a good year,” continued Leggett. “We are a yearolder, so I expect us to do well this year.”

Josie Porter led the team in 2009 with a .481 batting average.Darcy Miller batted .465, Adrienne Wallace .404 and Brady Davis.343.

Bogue Chitto assistant coaches are Denise Leggett and Jody Britt.Coach Leggett has 24 players on his squad.

The Lady Bobcats first home game will be against the Wesson Cobrason Aug. 16. The junior varsity game will precedes the varsitygame.
