Jags pounce on Bears

The North Pike Lady Jaguars rolled over the West Lincoln LadyBears 8-0, Thursday night in slowpitch softball action.

“We did not play very well on defense,” said West Lincoln headcoach Andrew Redd. “We had opportunities to keep them scoreless buta couple of errors allowed them to score some runs.

The Lady Bears will host the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats in aDivision 1A contest Tuesday night. The game begins with juniorvarsity at 5 p.m. followed by varsity at 6. The Lady Jaguars willentertain the Lawrence County Lady Cougars for a district gamestarting with JV at 6 p.m. followed by varsity at 7.

Charneissa Gordon collected the win for North Pike (6-2, 3-0) withno strikeouts and no walks.

Jessica Franklin absorbed the loss for West Lincoln providing twostrikeouts and allowing no walks.

Left center fielder Brianna Brister brought the offensive spark forthe Jags with a double and a triple. Breanna McKenzie fueled theflames with three singles. Lauren Wells contributed two singles.Shelby Adbul-Hati hit a double. Summer Brown, Alana Hopkins andGordon hit a single apiece.

“Our defense was very good,” said North Pike head coach SonyaWallace. “We struggle to hit the ball, but got a few good shots into get some runs.”

Second baseman Katie Hester led the Lady Bears’ offense with threesingles. Karli Herrington and Haley Ainsworth provided two singleseach. Hitting safely were Marisa Pruski, Alexis Cook and KatieMullins.

“We could not get the ball down tonight and get the hits weneeded,” continue Redd. “We have got to play a lot betteroffensively and defensively to make it far into the playoffs.”
