Funeral services for Damie Newsome Ready, of Monticello, are 2p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 24, at Monticello United Methodist Church withburial in the church cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello isin charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Sunday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral homeand again from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at thechurch.

Mrs. Ready, 87, died Oct. 21, 2010, at her residence. She was bornin New Hebron on Dec. 23, 1922, to Estus Colon Newsome and Naomi”Oma” Culpepper Newsome.

She was an active member of Monticello United Methodist Church andcharter member of the Fellowship Class. She was a member of theAmerican Legion Auxiliary, bookkeeper of Garraway stores inPrentiss, clerk of the Lawrence County Rationing Board during WorldWar II, and retired as clerk of Kellwood Manufacturing inMonticello.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Johnnie ClydeReady Sr.; her sisters, Launa Newsome Lowe and Nora NewsomeSimmons; and her brothers, Herman C. Newsome and E.C.Newsome.

Survivors are her son, Johnnie Clyde “Bill” Ready Jr. and wife,Charlotte, of Monticello; her daughter, Charlotte Carter andhusband, Eddie, of Monticello; her sister, Margurite Rutledge, ofMonticello; her grandchildren, Chip and Charmaine Carter, Jess andLori Carter, J. Damond and Kristina Ready, Clay and Sonya Ready andKirsten Alexander; and 12 great-grandchildren.
