Franklin County teams eliminated

PHILADELPHIA – Sparked by a 14-7 run in the fourth quarter,Southeast Lauderdale sent shockwaves through the state by upsettingClass 3A No. 1 Franklin County 43-39 Thursday night at ChoctawCentral High School in the quarterfinals of the 3A Girls SouthState Tournament. The loss ends Franklin County’s season at 24-2overall. The Lady Bulldogs, coached by Charles Moore were rankedNo.1 in 3A a majority of the season.
The Franklin County boys also lost Thursday, falling 56-38 toChoctaw Central in the South 3A boys tourney at DeKalb in KemperCounty.
SE Lauderdale (24-8) got a game-high 29 points from Pashen Thompsonen route to the victory, FCHS held Thompson to a mere one point inthe first quarter before she erupted.
Franklin County led 20-15 at halftime before watching SE Lauderdalerally in the second half.
Vintrice Briggs, Franklin County’s All-State forward, scored 15points to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Junior guard KeKe Collins addedseven points before going down with a knee injury in the fourthframe. Se Lauderdale took advantage of the Collins injury.
Choctaw Central 56, Franklin 38
Adrian Satepahoodle and Casian Dixon led Choctaw Central with 10points each as the Warriors defeated the Franklin County Bulldogsin the late afternoon quarterfinals game.
The Warriors, Region 5-1A champions, overwhelmed Franklin Countywith a 21-3 fourth quarter run that broke a 35-35 tie wide open infavor of the Warriors.
“They (Choctaw Central) were really good defensively,” said FCHSboys coach Chris Jordan. “They hit three 3s. We panicked and shotthe ball too fast thinking we had to catch up in threeminutes.”
Franklin County (14-9) was led by senior point guard MiltonGriffin’s 16 points. Anthony Green added eight points and eightrebounds.
