Bessie Smith

Bessie Smith, 97, of Brookhaven, passed away peacefully atMcComb Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Feb. 20, 2011.

Mrs. Smith was born on July 13, 1913, in Lincoln County, thedaughter of Leonard and Frances Smith. She was preceded in death byfour brothers and one sister and husband, Jerome Smith.

She was retired from Baker’s Pharmacy and worked as a senior aideat Copiah-Lincoln Junior College. She enjoyed working in her flowergarden and will be remembered by her grandchildren for her chickenand dumplings and chocolate pies. Mrs. Smith had lived at AstonCourt for the past five years prior to her admission to McCombNursing and Rehab.

Until her health failed, she enjoyed attending church and herSunday school class at First Baptist Church of Brookhaven, whereshe was a member.

Survivors include her son, Ronald J. Smith and wife, Carolyn, ofSummit; two grandchildren, R. Blake Smith and wife, Denise, ofOxford, and Amanda Rando and husband, Steve, of Harahan, La.; andsix great-grandchildren. Mrs. Smith also leaves a loving anddevoted niece, June Applewhite and special friends, John, Jennifer,and Ella Waits.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Riverwood FamilyFuneral Service in Brookhaven. Graveside services will be inRosehill Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23. The Rev. ZachMoak will officiate.

The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent and loving caregiven to Mrs. Smith by the staff of Aston Court, McComb Nursing andRehab, Hospice Compassus and the Rev. Zach Moak.
