Funeral services celebrating the life of Katherine Parnell Nix,95, will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel on ClintonBoulevard in Jackson on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at 11 a.m.
Officiating will be the Rev. Donnie Guy, a Gulfport evangelist andher former pastor at Van Winkle Baptist Church.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 17, atLakewood. She will be laid to rest in Lakewood Cemetery beside herhusband and life partner of 48 years, Frank Nix, who preceded herin death in October 1983.
Teresa Katherine Parnell was the youngest of five children born toZachary B. and Winnie B. Parnell of rural Brookhaven on Sept. 5,1915.
“Miss Katherine” had been a resident of the Jackson area sinceDecember 1946. She went home to be with her Lord at 1:18 a.m.Thursday in Brandon at the home of her primary caregiver anddaughter, Patricia Bounds.
For the last five years of her life, Mrs. Nix was partiallyincapacitated by a hip-joint replacement that kept her from activeparticipation in her church, First Baptist of Pearl. However, formore than three decades prior to that, she and her family wereactive members of Van Winkle Baptist Church, where she sang in thechoir.
Miss Katherine loved to spend her spare time listening to gospelmusic, watching her favorite television preachers, quilting,crocheting, and fishing (not necessarily in that order).
Mrs. Nix was preceded in death by her parents; all nine of hersiblings (including four half brothers and sisters); her husband;her grandson, Jeffrey Kent Nix; her son-in-law, Robert C. Bounds;and her great-grandson, Russell Ian Nix.
She is survived by her three children, Pat Bounds, Curt Nix(Karen), and Paul Nix (Danelle); her nine grandchildren, TeresaBorne, Bobby Bounds, Judy Hunter (Roy), Shelli Bounds, Cindi Nix,Rus Nix (Dory), Memory Kohl (Tom), Stephen Nix, Barry Nix (Robyn)and Kyle Kleinpoppen; and her great-grandchildren, Matthew Bounds(Erica), Foster Borne, Shelby Hunter, Ian Hunter, Jan Reeves (Lee),Anna Jefcoat, Erik Nix, Angie Nix, Evan Nix, Caroline Kohl, NoahNix and Presley Nix.
Pallbearers are Bobby Bounds, Roy Hunter, Rus Nix, Barry Nix,Matthew Bounds and Foster Borne.
The family wishes to thank Odyssey Hospice and its staff for thelove and Christ-like kindness they showed Miss Katherine and herfamily during her final days.
