Funeral services for James “Alton” Gill, of Slaughter, La., formerly of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, at Resthaven Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, with burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. The Rev. Reggie Bridges will officiate.
Visitation is Wednesday from 5 until 9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Gill, 82, died Aug. 20, 2012, at Carpenter House in Baton Rouge.
He was a Korean War veteran and retired from Wm. H. LaDew Co., where he was a sprinkler fitter. Mr. Gill loved fishing, helping his neighbors and riding with his dog, Sweetie, in his golf cart.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Audrey Gill; two sons, Milton Gill and Dwayne Gill; and a brother, Earl Gill.
Survivors are his daughter, Cathy James and husband, John; daughter-in-law, Kyong Marchiafava; sister, Joy Smith; brother, Harry Gill and wife, Joann; five grandchildren, Heather Ellis and husband Josh, Stephanie Stalter and husband, Ben, Stacy Gill, Shannon Orillion and husband, Dustin, and Shane James; and five great-grandchildren, Emma James, Isabella Ellis, Preston Stalter, Annalise Ellis and Tanner Orillion.
