Funeral services for Herman Douglas Cavin were 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapel with burial in Wesson City Cemetery.

     Visitation was from 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

     Mr. Cavin, 72, died Dec. 10, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. He was born in Mississippi on Dec. 22, 1939, to Whitley Cavin and Vera Perry Cavin.

     He attended was a graduate of Natchez High School, Hinds Community College and received a master’s degree from Mississippi State University. He taught at Copiah-Lincoln Community College for more than 29 years. He was of the Baptist faith.

     Mr. Cavin was an avid hunter and excellent carpenter. His hobby was restoring and collecting antique cars.

     Preceding him in death were his parents; and a brother-in-law, Larry Hinson.

     Survivors include his wife of more than 50 years, Gwen Hinson Cavin; his daughter, Lea Ann Knight and her husband, Phillip; his sister, Betty Cavin Smith and her husband, Roger; a grandchild, Whitney Knight; a sister-in-law, Sharon Hinson; four nephews; and one niece.
