ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats recorded an impressive MACJC South Division sweep here Wednesday evening at Community Bank Park.

The Bobcats got a complete-game victory from Cody Brewer in game one and beat the Co-Lin Community College Wolfpack 8-1. In game two, the Bobcats rolled to an 11-1, six inning decision.

JCJC is now 17-7 overall and leads the division at 5-1. Co-Lin, who entered the day tied for the top spot with JCJC, falls to 13-10 overall, 3-3 in league play.

The Bobcats continue division play with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Mississippi Gulf Coast on Saturday. Co-Lin will visit Southwest on Saturday.

Bobcats 8, Wolves 1

Brewer, a sophomore from Perry Central, allowed just three hits, struck out eight and walked one as he improved to 4-1.

Codey Minter, another Perry Central sophomore, had two doubles, a single and scored three runs to lead JCJC at the plate.

The Bobcats got on the board in the first inning when Trent Giambrone singled, Minter singled and Tyler Graves had an RBI single. Jordan Stark and Alex Shermer followed with RBI singles and JCJC would lead 3-0.

Jones added two runs in the second when Lamar Anthony reached on an error, stole second and scored on Minter’s double. Benji Sullivan then had an RBI single to score Minter to make it 5-0.

JCJC stretched the lead to 8-0 in the fourth when Minter led off with a double and scored on Sullivan’s single. After Graves was hit by a pitch, Josh Pankratz doubled. Stark then delivered another RBI single and Shermer reached on a fielder’s choice to drive in a run.

The Wolves got on the board in the fifth when Cole Page led off with a walk, Will Gatlin singled and Phillip Lott got an RBI single.

After Minter’s effort at the plate, Shermer doubled and singled, while Stark and Sullivan each had two singles. Pankratz added a double, while Giambrone, Graves and Collin Dexter had singles.

Jonathan Santana doubled for the Wolves. Gatlin and Lott singled.

Co-Lin freshman Shane McKinley started, went 3 1/3 innings and took the loss. He allowed eight runs, 12 hits and struck out two. Corey Funk went 2/3 of an inning, gave up one hit and struck out one. Gage Miles went the final two innings and allowed no runs and no hits.

Bobcats 11, Wolves 1

JCJC used a six-run, second inning to take control.

For the third time on the day, Graves got hit by a pitch to start the inning. After a groundout, Stark and Shermer delivered RBI singles. Stephen Stiglets reached on a fielder’s choice and stole a base. Giambrone had an RBI single and Minter delivered another RBI single. Giambrone would score on an error and Sullivan reached on an infield single. Graves would then deliver another run-scoring single.

Co-Lin made it 6-1 in the fourth when Santana singled, Matt Smith walked and Christopher Perry singled to load the bases. A bases loaded walk to Milton Griffin forced in the run.

The Bobcats took a 9-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Minter and Sullivan singled and Graves followed with an RBI single to center. The ball got past the centerfielder, which allowed Sullivan to score. Courtesy runner Lamar Anthony would eventually score on a wild pitch.

JCJC went up 10-1 in the fifth when pinch-hitter Stephen Billingsley walked and Shermer reached on a fielder’s choice. Dexter and Stiglets singled to load the bases and Giambrone walked to force in a run.

The Bobcats ended it in the sixth. Pankratz walked and advanced to third on an error. Shermer’s sacrifice fly to right scored Pankratz and gave JCJC a 10-run, ‘mercy rule’ victory.

Jon Mark Herrington started, went 3 1/3 innings and got credit for the win. He allowed one run and three hits. Cole Barlow pitched 2 1/3 innings, gave up one hit and struck out two. Jeremy Kidd was the final out on a strikeout.

Minter, Sullivan, Graves and Stark had two singles each for the Bobcats. Giambrone, Shermer, Dexter and Stiglets each had a single.

Lott doubled for the Wolves, while McKinley, Santana and Perry had singles.

Caleb Dugas was the starter and loser. He went four innings, allowed nine runs, 10 hits and struck out three. Tyler Case pitched an inning, gave up one run, two hits and got a strikeout. Ryan Goddard pitched the final 2/3 of an inning and gave up an unearned run.
