Lady Cobras turn back Taylorsville Lady Tartars

TAYLORSVILLE – The Wesson Lady Cobras turned back Taylorsville’s Lady Tartars 4-3 Saturday in the rain-delayed, MHSAA Class 2A State Softball Playoffs. Taylorsville left the tying run on first in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Lady Cobras (20-5) host Taylorsville Monday at 5:30 as the best-of-three series continues. If Game 3 is necessary, it will follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2.
“It was good to go over there and get a win,” said Wesson coach Jackie Johnson. “We still have to take care of business and get another win. We have to finish strong.”
Senior Abbey Smith pitched the victory. She struck out 2 batters and walked 1, allowing 8 hits.
Kaci Bryant (2K, 1BB) was charged with the loss. She gave up 4 runs and 8 hits.
Offensively, Wesson was led by third baseman Sarah Robinson and catcher Macie McQuage who both singled twice. McQuage had an RBI single in the fifth. Hailey Chassion hit a clutch, 2-out, 2-RBI single in the sixth.
Bailey Middleton added an RBI sacrifice fly. Shortstop Kayla Britt singled and doubled. Hanna Brown doubled as Wesson built a 4-1 lead.
Taylorsville was led by Meagan Stringer who went 3-for-4. Leadoff batter Camry Griffith singled and doubled. Cassidy LeBlanc tripled. Brianna McMillan and Anna Kennedy doubled.
