WESSON – The Enterprise-Clarke Lady Bulldogs used their experience, speed and small-ball to blank the Wesson Lady Cobras 12-0 Saturday in Game One of the Class 2A South State championship series. Seven errors destroyed the Lady Cobras.

“It is great to get to opening game victory,” said Enterprise-Clarke coach Davey Dewitt. “We knew coming in that Wesson is a very good ball club with strong pitching and defense.

“We wanted to come out and put the ball in play early and use our speed to make things happen,” continued Dewitt. “Overall, I am proud of my girls effort.”

Wesson’s softball fans gathered to give support to the Lady Cobras in their first appearance in the 2A South State championship.

The Lady Bulldogs spoiled the Lady Cobras’ home opener with a 12-0 shutout in five innings of work.

Enterprise-Clarke relied on their experience and speed as they took advantage of Wesson’s seven errors to secure Game One.

Hayleigh Harper was the winning pitcher for the Lady Bulldogs with three strikeouts and no walks in the 2-hit shutout.

Abbey Smith suffered the setback for the Lady Cobras with one strikeout and no walks.

Third baseman Sarah Robinson was the offensive leader for Wesson with a double. Hanna Brown contributed a single.

“We did not come ready to play,” said Wesson coach Jackie Johnson. “We need to put this loss behind us and prepare for the challenge Monday.”

Emmalee Roberts and Harper directed Enterprise-Clarke’s offense with a pair of singles. Hitting safely were Blakely Riley, Harley Smith, Delaney Davidson, Lauren Smith and Jordan Goodman.
