Henry Loring ‘Lucky’ Smith

Henry “Junior” Loring Smith was born Dec. 8, 1928 in Brookhaven to Henry Mullen Smith and Mary Ann Smith. He passed from this life May 1, 2013 at his home in Stilwell, Okla., at the age of 84 years. He was always known as Junior to his family and friends.

Henry was a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, serving during the Korean War. He married Johnnye Hill on April 13, 1952 in Fort Smith, Ark., and this union was blessed with two sons, John and Michael.

He played football and graduated from Brookhaven High School. Henry worked for Yellow Freight for over 30 years. He loved traveling in their R.V. and playing golf at many worldwide courses. He was a member of the Christian Worship Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a baby daughter, Sue Leta; one grandson; brother, Whitney Smith, of Oklahoma; sisters, Cleo Smith Case, Melba Smith Sykes and Mildred Smith Sykes; and brothers-in-law, Jake Case, Paul Sykes, Elmer Sykes, all of Brookhaven, and Cotton Hill, of Oklahoma; and sister-in-law, Maggie Smith, of Oklahoma.

He leaves behind a loving family, which includes his wife of 61 years, Johnnye Smith; sons, John David Smith, of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Michael Loring Smith, and wife, Debbie, of Marion, Ark.; five grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Joe and Jerry Bob Hill; sisters-in-law, Janice Sue Hart and Margaret and June Hill; and many loving nieces and nephews in Brookhaven and other locations.

Graveside services were held 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Stilwell City Cemetery, with Pastor Hubert Sponsler officiating. Burial was under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.

William ‘Bill’ Strawbridge

Funeral services for William “Bill” Strawbridge of Brookhaven are 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drive, with burial in Easthaven Cemetery.

Visitation is Monday from 5 until 9 p.m. and Tuesday from noon until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Strawbridge, 77, died May 10, 2013 at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Meadville.
