Harvey ‘Did’ M. Prather

Harvey “Did” M. Prather Jr., 69, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at his residence in the Oldenburg community of Franklin County.

Visitation is Saturday, Aug. 3, from 5 until 9 p.m. and continues on Sunday from 2 until the time of service at 3 p.m. at Elmo Baptist Church. Graveside service will follow at Elmo Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. James Hunsucker and Dr. Matt Buckles are officiating the services. Franklin Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Pallbearers are Monte Martin, Wyatt Martin, Anthony Farrell, Harvey Farrell, Carey Buckles, J. L. Stacker, Patrick Lehmann and Keith Wollerson. Honorary pallbearers are deacons of Elmo Baptist Church, John Ray Smith, Alan Buckles, Earl Keith and Gary Lehmann.

Mr. Prather was born Sept. 22, 1943, in Natchez to Harvey M. (Sr.) and Hannah Lehmann Prather. He was a retired supervisor for Georgia-Pacific. He was of the Baptist faith and was a lifelong member of Elmo Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon. He was a past master of the Ben Franklin Lodge #11, F&AM and a member of the Middlefork Coon Hunting Club. He served in the National Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred “Weese” Prather; daughter, Melissa “Missy” Martin and husband, Billy Jr., of Oldenburg; grandsons, Monte Martin and Wyatt Martin; sisters, Ellen Harrigill and husband, Jack, of Oldenburg, Mattie Lucy Buckles and husband, Alfred, of Omaha, Neb., and Mary Ann Buckles and husband, Rayford, of Kirby; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janet Farrell; and brother, William Maxie Prather.
