BSD approves final 2014-2015 budget

The Brookhaven School District on Tuesday approved a final budget for school year 2014-2015.
The budget, which closes out fiscal year 2015, showed no surprises.
In other board business:
• The board approved a JROTC fundraiser to sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts and identification neck tags.
• The board accepted a donation of bundles of wood from Dr. Michael Peavey to the BTC Construction Trade Program.
• The board approved donations from Powerlifting Booster in the amount of $653.50 for powerlifting expenses and a championship ring.
• The board approved Alexander Junior High band students to sell Maestro Brand food products Sept. 25 through Oct. 3.
• The board approved the Brookhaven High School band to sell band stickers and Panther stickers during fall 2015.
• The board approved for the Softball Booster Club to conduct a high school beauty pageant in 2016.
• The board approved the student council to conduct the following fundraisers during the 2015-2016 school year: sell winter clothing items, sell detergent, conduct a womanless beauty pageant, sell chicken plates, sell Little Caesar’s Pizza kits and sell spring clothing items.
• The board approved for National Honor Society to sell gold T-shirts, with all of the proceeds to Batson Children’s Hospital.
• The board approved for BHS Cross Country Team to sell hamburger plates at Panther Park before home football games in October.
The next school board meeting will be Oct. 20.
