Childress, Britt, BHS boys XC winners

Aubrey Britt of Loyd Star and Grayson Childress of Brookhaven High were both overall winners Tuesday at the Jackson Public Schools Cross-Country Challenge meet at Choctaw Trails in Clinton.

Britt, a sophomore, finished in 20 minutes and 39 seconds to beat her closest competitor by 77 seconds. Carley Craig from Brookhaven High finished fifth and her teammate Ellie Slay finished sixth for the Lady Panthers.  Senior Bailey Pounds finished in 10th place for Brookhaven and freshman Lily Gray was the 12th place finisher. Senior Emmaline Wolfe was just behind Gray in 13th place. As a team BHS finished second behind Madison Ridgeland Academy. There were 122 individual runners and 13 teams competing.

In the boys’ race the Panthers claimed top prize as a team over 24 other schools. West Lincoln finished fifth as a team. There were 253 individual runners competing.

Sophomore Grayson Childress finished in first place for Brookhaven with a time of 16:50, beating out Grayson Edwards of Northwest Rankin by 11 seconds. BHS senior Jacob Britt finished third and was followed by teammates Sam Arnold and Jake Thompson in fourth and fifth place respectively. Tiler Castillo of West Lincoln finished sixth and X’Zavion Stewart of Brookhaven High was eighth followed by teammate Trey Knott in ninth place. Chase Spring of West Lincoln finished in 12th place and Samuel Mabile was the 20th place finisher for BHS.

The next JPS Challenge Meet for BHS is on Tuesday.
