50 Plus Club hosts ‘Colors of Easter’

The 50 Plus Club met on March 23 in the Anderson Building on the Copiah-Lincoln Community College campus.
Club president Connie Evans opened the meeting with the Pledge and National Anthem followed by a devotion, “If You are Distracted.” Satan can quickly sneak into our lives if he thinks thee is something valuable there. He will sneak in and take it, and that’s how it happens. We miss one church service that turns into six months; we tell one fib and that turns into a trail of lies and deceit; and so on. If Satan can have you, he’ll distract you. Be on guard. “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:10-11).
The talented Jennifer Templeton gave a very interesting and informative program entitled “Real Meaning of the Colors of Easter.” We often think of colored eggs, bundies, and Easter baskets, but we celebrate Easter as the time of Jesus Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. There are seven colors associated with Easter: purple — Lent, Passion Week; pink/rose — cross, new beginning; red — blood; black — mourning; green — new life; gold — glory; white — purity and resurrection.
Templeton had a very pretty display with items mentioned in the Bible with each representing the seven colors. Easter is always celebrated on the Sunday following the first full moon after spring equinox.
A group of ladies from the New Zion Baptist Church in Crystal Springs were visitors and were invited to come back and join. Lynn Ingle of Rockport joined as a new member.
The club’s next meeting will be Thursday, April 20.
