UPDATE: Lawrence County schools to remain on lockdown as precaution

Four Lawrence County School District campuses are on lockdown, and will remain on lockdown until dismissal Tuesday afternoon.
At noon, the district released the following statement, amending it later to add New Hebron Attendance Center:
“Lawrence County High School, Rod Paige Middle School and Monticello Elementary School are currently on lockdown as a precautionary measure. All students and staff are safe at this time. We will continue to release updates as available.”
Around the same time, Sheriff Ryan Everett shared the following:
“Lawrence County High School is on lockdown due to a threat. Law enforcement is on scene and is assessing and investigating the threat at this time. There has been NO ACTIVITY in regards to the threat at this time, and everyone is safe.”
Around 1:45 p.m., the district announced the schools would remain on lockdown until dismissal as a precautionary measure.
“All students and staff are safe at this time,” the district said.
Senior Awards Ceremony postponed
The LCHS Senior Awards Ceremony planned for Tuesday, May 9, has been postponed and the time for Underclassmen Awards changed. Underclassmen will have their Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 11, at 5:30 p.m. in the LCHS Multipurpose Building. The Senior Awards Ceremony will follow beginning at 6:30 p.m.
