Firefighters work to keep factory blaze contained

Firefighters from multiple departments are actively fighting a fire that has destroyed the historic Stahl-Urban factory on Main Street.

Wind gusts cool the overheated air, but only stoke the flames as water streams enter the building from several points.

Brookhaven Water Department staff are on hand at the nearby treatment plant, making sure water pressure stays high for fire crews.

Other firefighters are working to ensure the blaze doesn’t spread to nearby structures and trees.

Fire Chief Jeff Ainsworth said at this time he does not believe anyone was inside the building when it went up in flames.

Embers from the fire carried to the Rex Lumber Pellet mill where additional fires started. The fires at Rex were contained with the help of Mississippi Forestry Commission and volunteer firefighters.

The fire was on the anniversary of the deadly 2023 apartment fire on East Chippewa Street.
