With two strong hitting performances and two dominant pitching performances from freshman Codi Leggett, the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats swept Sebastopol to advance to the South State title series Tuesday.

The Lady Cats won the first game with a 6-0 shutout and followed up with a great offensive performance in game two and won 6-1. The wins continue the hot streak for Bogue Chitto, who has won nine games in a row and owns a 20-7 overall record.

Bogue Chitto will face Ethel in the South State title series starting Friday at Ethel. The South State matchup will be a rematch of the title series from last season, where Bogue Chitto won both games to win the South State title.

“I’m very proud of the girls because they played so well,” Bogue Chitto head coach Scott Leggett said. “Our defense held strong. We hit the ball a lot better, but we left a lot of runners on base. It was an excellent win for us.”

This will be the ninth time in 12 years the Lady Cats will play for the South State title.

Game 1: Bogue Chitto 6, Sebastopol 0

Bogue Chitto jumped on the board early in game one Monday with three runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Lady Cats added on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the win 6-0.

Leggett was dominant on the mound for Bogue Chitto, pitching all seven innings, giving up no runs on four hits, two walks and seven strikeouts.

Leggett also had a great game at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs on the evening. Junior Reagan Kirkland also had a big game at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs as well.

Senior Terrah Nelson had a big game with three hits, including a double and one RBI. Eighth grader Julianna Frazier had the other RBI for Bogue Chitto.

Game 2: Bogue Chitto 6, Sebastopol 1

Bogue Chitto exploded at the plate in game two with six runs on 16 hits to win the series and sweep Sebastopol by a score of 6-1 Tuesday evening.

The Lady Cats scored one run in every inning except for the top of the fourth to advance to South State.

Leggett pitched another good game for the Lady Cats, tossing all seven innings and giving up one earned run on eight hits, no walks and two strikeouts.

Kirkland led the Lady Cats at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs on the evening. Frazier also had a big game, going 4-for-4 with one double, one triple and two runs scored. Seniors Nelson, Cherie Savoie and Leggett each had two hits. Freshman Stevie Montgomery went 1-for-3 at the plate with one run scored as well.

Ethel comes into the matchup hot at the right time, winning six of their last seven games in the playoffs. The series begins Friday at Ethel with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
