Lipsticks and pigskins at Brookhaven High School and Brookhaven Academy

Whether it’s Lipstick & Laces or Pigskins and Pearls, the ladies of Lincoln County will have a place to go this weekend to talk football and eat while raising money for their schools.

The Brookhaven High School and Brookhaven Academy fundraisers were such a hit for their respective schools that the organizers brought the events back for a second year.

Brookhaven Academy’s Pigskins and Pearls will be Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Tickets are $35 for adults and include a T-shirt and an Italian pasta bar.

Kids’ tickets are $15 and include a T-shirt and a chicken strip dinner.

All proceeds from Pigskins and Pearls go to the BA Booster Club.

Tickets are available at Expectations Too, Sidney’s Salon and the BA school office. The last day to get tickets and be guaranteed a T-shirt is Wednesday.

Kappi Rushing, wife of head coach Ron Rushing, said she expected about 100 women to attend last year and nearly doubled that.

“I was really pleased with the turnout,” she aid.

She decided to open the event up to the younger girls who wanted to come with their mothers, grandmothers and older sisters.

“School spirit needs to start at a young age,” Rushing said.

Her goal is to turn the football-learning event into a mother-daughter night that would include grandmothers and aunts as well.

They’ll have door prizes available to win, but Rushing warns: They don’t come easy. There will be a quiz on the football lessons they’ll learn that night, she said.

Brookhaven High School’s Lipstick & Laces will be Saturday. Registration is 5 to 5:30 p.m. at the King’s Daughters Performance Center. T-shirts may still be available if pre-registering at Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, Bank of Brookhaven or Brookhaven School District Office, but are not guaranteed.

Tickets are $25.

Participants should wear tennis shoes to the event, where they will learn the basics of football with some hands-on lessons with Ole Brook coaches.

There will also be a a tailgating party, of course, with a spread of finger foods, as well as a silent auction.
