Forest Hill holds off Brookhaven

The Forest Hill Patriots (5-7) finish as the third-place team in Region 3-5A after knocking off the Brookhaven High Panthers (5-6) 28-21 Friday night at South Jackson Field.

The Panthers went up on 7-0 on a Byrion Robinson 55-yard TD run. FH responded with a screen that picked up 77 yards down to their 3-yard line before punching it in for the score.

Robinson answered by returning the ensuing kickoff 76 yards to put BHS up 14-7.

FH led 21-14 at halftime. In the third quarter, Ole Brook controlled the ball for most of the period before fumbling on the FH 5-yard line. Another screen scoring pass put the Patriots up 28-14.

The final Panther TD of the night came on a Dre Ross pass to Jermario Hersey which cut the lead to seven with 1:30 remaining. Forest Hill recovered the onside kick to run out the clock and preserve the win.

BHS travels next week to Picayune to face the Maroon Wave in their playoff opener. Forest Hill will be on the road at Wayne County.
