Wesson High linebacker Collin McGowen has joined the Wolf Pack. McGowen was accompanied by family members and supports Wednesday in a signing ceremony at the school as he inked a letter-of-intent to play football next season for Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

Three times McGowen was tabbed for The Daily Leader All-Area Team during his career playing for the Cobras and coach Jeremy Loy. As a senior, he made 82 tackles, including five for a loss.

McGowen was used more as a running back during his senior season and responded by picking up 928 yards and scoring nine touchdowns on 153 carries.

Co-Lin announced the signing of 31 new players for the 2022 class. In McGowen, Loy says CLCC head coach Glenn Davis is getting the type of player that has that something extra that’s needed to play on the next level.

“Collin has had a great career for us at Wesson and we look forward to seeing what he can do at the next level,” said Loy. “He works hard and loves football. Where he lacks size, he makes up for it in effort and strength. Co-Lin is getting a very coachable, respectful young man.”

Other linebackers in the class signed by Co-Lin include Reggie Bonds Jr. (McComb High), Demerion Robinson (Vicksburg High), Zavion Shaw (Terry High) and Jemeyian Spencer (Magee High).

Robinson was named the Vicksburg Post’s 2021 Defensive Player of the Year.

Loy’s familiar with new CLCC defensive coordinator David Duggan. When Loy was the offensive coordinator at Franklin County, Duggan was one of the Southern Miss assistants tasked with recruiting FC star Jamie Collins to Hattiesburg.

Defensive backs signed by Co-Lin on Wednesday include Dedrian Alexander-Bradley (Jefferson Davis County), Christopher Burnett (Yazoo County), Quavarrious Davis (Jim Hill), Mekhi Mayweather (Hartfield Academy), Davion Roby (Kosciusko High), Elijah Short (Columbus High) and Dajuan Woods (Choctaw County).

The Wolves added a couple of out-of-state players along the defensive line in Tioga, Louisiana product Amery Edwards and Lithonia, Georgia native Keyshawn McCoy. Other defensive linemen signed by Co-Lin include Ta’Javious Cotton (South Panola), Jamaal Dinkins (Magee High) and Kenontay Wells (Forest Hill).

Co-Lin added a local specialist and signal caller with the signings of Brookhaven Academy kicker Corey Case and BA quarterback Tyler Fortenberry. The Wolves also stayed local in grabbing Bogue Chitto long snapper Eli Cupit and West Lincoln offensive lineman Jackson Taylor.

Other offensive linemen inked by the Co-Lin coaching staff include Joshua Ealy (Morton High), Quentis Griffin (Wilkinson County), Christian Howell (Tri-County Academy) and Brandon Wallace (North Panola).

The Wolves only added one running back in this class but got a good one in Johnnie Daniels of Crystal Springs High.

Former Brookhaven High quarterback Dre Ross is joining Co-Lin as a wide receiver. Other wideouts signed by the Wolves are Jamarquez Melton (West Point), Carlos Martin (Laurel High), Tyron Henderson (Newton County) and Cade Dedeux (Sumrall High).
