Here’s a look at how area high school teams fared in high school baseball action played on Thursday.

Bogue Chitto

The Bogue Chitto Bobcats whipped East Marion for two wins on Thursday in Region 7-2A play.

Coach Gareth Sartin’s Bobcats won the opener 15-0 and the finale 11-1 over the visiting Eagles. Felder Sartin got the complete game win on the mound in game one. Sartin only needed 31 pitches to get through three innings in the mercy-rule shortened game. He struck out one and gave up one hit.

Senior Carson Price led the Bobcats with two doubles at the plate as the Bobcats had nine hits and drew seven walks.

Brandon Welch, Colten Bales, Eli Cupit, Colton Frith and Sartin had one hit each. Tyler Bowers had two hits for the Bobcats. Welch drove in three runs while Noah Magee drove in a pair of runs as did Price and Sartin. Bales, Cupit, Frith, Bowers and Easton Sartin each had one RBI apiece in the first game.

Felder Sartin kept his arm loose and stayed on the hill for game two. He threw 65 pitches and gave up four hits and one earned run while striking out two and walking two.

Tripp McCaffrey finished off the win by throwing the final inning for the Bobcats. Magee had two hits in the win as did Price. Cupit, Bales, McCaffrey and Tyler Bowers had one hit each.

Magee also drove in two runs as Welch, Cupit, Frith, Bowers, Easton Sartin and Felder Sartin had one RBI each in the finale.

Bogue Chitto is 4-11 on the season and will be back in region play next week against its county rivals from West Lincoln.

West Lincoln

The Bears picked up a 12-0 win over Amite County at home in a Region 7-2A game. The series was scheduled to conclude with two games on Friday at Amite County High in Liberty.

WL assistant coach Craig “Bouie” Davis was leading the team as head coach David Gilbert was out with his wife Karlee due to the birth of their twins.

Senior pitcher Brady Ratcliff was lights out on the mound for the Bears as he threw a four-inning no-hitter. Ratcliff struck out nine of the 12 batters he faced.

Freshman Korben Altman, senior Ashtin Autonberry, senior John Brantlee Pedigo, freshman Caden Seay and Ratliff all had one hit each.

Freshman Gabe Gennaro had the hot bat at the plate as he hit a double that drove in two runs and also got an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Senior Hayden Boyd also had a sac fly that went for an RBI.

Region 7-2A is made up of the Bears, Bogue Chitto, Loyd Star, Amite County and East Marion. With four of the five teams making the postseason, Davis said getting the win on Thursday was the first step in that direction for the green and white.

“Our goal this week is to secure a spot in the playoff,” said Davis. “With five teams in our division, if we win this series then we’ll make the playoffs barring any huge upsets.  Brady threw it very, very well to get us the win.”

Brookhaven High

Brookhaven High senior Maney Miller was masterful on the mound Thursday as the Panthers got a huge Region 5-5A win by a 2-0 margin over the visiting West Jones Mustangs.

The victory makes coach Matt White’s team 2-0 in its division.

Miller, a Pearl River CC signee, struck out eight and gave up four hits in seven innings. The win wasn’t pressure free though as Miller walked eight in throwing 118 pitches.

West Jones pitcher Francisco Elvira wasn’t too shabby in his efforts either. He gave up three hits and struck out eight while walking one. Elvira gave up one earned run on 83 pitches in six innings.

Miller, Jake Meilstrup and Ben Adams all hit safely for BHS. Adams hit a double and Miller had one RBI.

Meilstrup led the game off with a single and scored later in the inning on a passed ball. Courtesy runner Grayson Smith scored after taking Adam’s place when he doubled in the third.

Smith scored when Miller laid down a bunt single.

A double play ball hit to senior second baseman JP Wallace ended the game for the Panthers.

The Panthers (8-3) are back on Moyer Field for a game against Natchez High in another division affair at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
