Services for Barbara Ann Lofton Sproles, of Brookhaven, are noonMonday, Jan. 16 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer inBrookhaven.

Visitation is today from 5 – 8 p.m. at Riverwood Family FuneralService and Monday from 10 a.m. until noon at the church.

Mrs. Sproles, 67, died Jan. 13, 2006, at her home after a shortbattle with cancer. She was born in Brookhaven on March 10, 1938,to Tom C. Lofton Sr. and Elsie Lofton.

Mrs. Sproles graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1956,where she was “Miss BHS,” head cheerleader, State Y-Teen presidentand an accomplished swimmer and tennis player. She attendedLouisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She was a homemaker, aGirl Scout and Y-Teen leader, and taught Sunday school. Mrs.Sproles was an antique dealer and appraiser, as well as a member ofthe National Antique Dealers Association; a charter member of theKrewe of Ceres; and a member of the Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce.She was on the board of directors of the Sunshine Shelter and theBrookhaven Arts Council. Mrs. Sproles was also active in theBrookhaven Little Theater and was instrumental in the restorationand renovation of the Haven Theater.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband of 34years, John W. “Dub” Sproles.

Survivors are her sons, John Sproles and his wife Charleen, ofBrandon, and Tommy Sproles and his wife JoAnna, of Brookhaven; herdaughters, Mandy Dann, of Brookhaven, Amy Smith and her husbandGene, of Hattiesburg, Cheryl Sproles, of Brookhaven, and SarahFoster and her husband Stan, of Brookhaven; her 11 grandchildren,Allison and Ashley Dann, Wil McDowell and Meg Foster, and Jamie andKatie Sproles, all of Brookhaven, Kyle, Sean and Clay Smith, ofHattiesburg, and Matthew and Macy Sproles, of Brandon; her brother,Thomas Clay Lofton, of Ridgeland; her two sisters-in-law, DorothyNell Oberschmidt, of Brookhaven, and Frances Lofton, of Pineville,La.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Memorials may be made to King’s Daughters Foundation and HospiceMinistries Inc., both in Brookhaven.
