Hollis Black

Services for Hollis Black, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. Saturday,Nov. 28, at Mt. Olive M.B. Church in Brookhaven with burial in thechurch cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 1 until 7 p.m. at Williams Mortuarywith family present from 6 until 7 p.m.

Mr. Black, 59, died Nov. 11, 2009, at his residence. He was bornin Lincoln County on Aug. 1, 1950, to Revis Black Sr. and Ida MaeEdwards Black.

He was a 1968 graduate of Eva Harris High School and attendedAlcorn State University. He was self-employed as a cement finisher.He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Mt.Olive M.B. Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, HerlonBlack; his sons, Hollis Black Jr. and Maurice Black; and adaughter, Sarah Jean Black.

Survivors are his wife, Clementine Leggett Black, of Brookhaven;his daughters, Estenna Markham and husband, Otis, of Greensboro,La., and Peggy Black and husband, Charlie, of Brookhaven; his sons,Markus Alvin Black and wife, Karnisha, of Hammond, La., and JamesBlack and wife, Denise, of Barlow; his brothers, Earl “E.C.” Blackand wife, Mattie, of Hazlehurst, and Revis Black Jr. and wife, Ada,of Brookhaven; a sister, Louvenia Henderson and husband, WillieLee, of Brookhaven; his seven grandchildren; and his many nieces,nephews and other relatives.

Leon M. Carr

Services for Leon M. Carr, of Monticello, were 10 a.m. Friday,Nov. 20, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Monticello with burial inAntioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Monticello.

Mr. Carr, 67, died Nov. 17, 2009, at Forrest General Hospital inHattiesburg. He was born in Lawrence County on March 27, 1942, toJames Allen Carr and Arline Townsend Carr.

He was a retired mechanic. His family said he could diagnoseengine problems just by listening. He loved to joke around and makepeople laugh. He had a heart of gold and dearly loved his familyand friends. Mr. Carr was proud of his heritage and would tell allthat if you didn’t know any Carrs you were really missing out.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, MarilynCarr Butler; and three brothers, Turner, James and J.D. Carr.

Survivors are his sons, Tony Carr, of Jayess, Steven Carr, ofBeeville, Texas, and Wayne Carr, of Seminary; his daughters, ReginaStrong, of Mt. Olive, Amanda Carr, of Jayess, Deborah Carr, ofMendenhall; a brother, Jack Reid, of Houston, Texas; and a sister,Elaine Boyd, of McComb.

Pallbearers were Howard Butler Jr., Justin Mahaffey, BrianReeves, Ronnie Matheing, Stacy Printer and Billy Printer.

Honorary pallbearers were Timothy Carr, Michael Cutrer and ClayRaborn.

Dwight Ernest Waddell

Services for Dwight Ernest Waddell, of Brookhaven, are 12:30p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapelin Brookhaven.

Visitation is noon Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Waddell, 81, died Nov. 9, 2009, at the University ofMississippi Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 12, 1927, to JohnWaddell and Marcella Bretz Waddell.

He was a geologist with Shell Oil Co. He was a part of the U.S.Air Force. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church inBrookhaven.

Preceding him in death were his parents, John Waddell andMarcella Bretz Waddell; and a brother, Dean Waddell.

Survivors are his wife, Sara S. Waddell; a son, Dwight E.Waddell II and wife, Nancy, of Oxford; his daughters, Mary W. Burgeand husband, Tucker, of Birmingham, Ala., Jane M. Waddell and Tracyand Alice E. Waddell and Elaine, all of New Orleans, La.; abrother-in-law, Bill Sikes; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Billyand Flora Jones and George and Ava Nell Sikes; a sister-in-law,Peggy Wadell; his three grandchildren, Tucker Burge, Margaret Burgeand Katherine Waddell; and a host of nieces and nephews.
