The Lincoln County School District Board of trustees met Thursday night to approve their budget for the 2013-2014 school year.

Although this year’s revenues come in at $24,069,040.40 and the expenditures top more than $28.3 million, in a previous interview LCSD Superintendent Terry Brister emphasized the financial stability of the district due to careful budgeting over the last eight years which allowed close to $15 million in funds to be set back.

Also taken into consideration is the construction of the new gyms at Enterprise and Bogue Chitto. The district is using funds already in possession to finance the construction.

The normal operating budget, which pays for faculty, staff and utilities, saw little change from last year to this year.

During Thursday’s meeting the board also approved the renewal of the district’s insurance coverage for 2014 despite a 60 percent increase in the premium.

District Business Manager Cheryl Shelby explained due to the damage sustained after the tornadoes at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, some insurance agencies opted to deny coverage of schools, resulting in an increase in market cost.
