McCOMB – The Brookhaven Panthers mauled the Amite County Trojans49-18 Monday afternoon in the opening round of McComb HolidayTournament.

In the girls’ game, the Amite County Lady Trojans clipped theBrookhaven Lady Panthers 39-32. In another tournament girls’ game,the North Pike Lady Jaguars crushed the Moss Point Lady Tigers71-58.

The Lady Panthers battled the Lady Tigers of Moss Point in aconsolation game today at noon. The Brookhaven boys advanced in thewinners bracket and will face the South Pike Eagles today at4:30.

Amite Co 39, Brookhaven 32

The Lady Panthers (4-9) were led in scoring by Fredericka Fairmanand Shareeka Hill with 8 points apiece.

“We still have plenty of things to improve on, but the girls aresteadily improving,” said Brookhaven coach Freda Craft. “Hopefully,it will all come together when district begins.”

Junior forward Tydesheia Pool pumped in a game-high 24 points tolead the Lady Trojans (6-4).

“It is always a good game, when you play Brookhaven,” said AmiteCounty first-year head coach Marcus Flippin. “It is fun to playedand coach against my good friend Freda Craft.”

Flippin’s team outscored BHS 27-22 in the second half after leadingBHS 12-10 at halftime.

North Pike 71, Moss Point 58

Maraya Quin pumped in 19 points to lead the Lady Jaguars. KaylaHughes chipped in with 18 points. Precious Jefferson contributed 15points.

Moss Point was lead by Bessie Carson with 19 points. MarkeishaNelson knocked down 16 points. Carresha Glaude added 11 points.

Brookhaven 49, Amite County 18

The Panthers (11-2) cruised past the Amite County Trojans aftergetting a commanding lead in the second quarter. They took a 30-4lead into halftime.

Alvin Franklin provided a game-high performance with 12 points tolead Brookhaven.

“The kids did a very good job taking care of business early,” saidBrookhaven coach Preston Wilson. “Amite County could not handle thepressure from our defense and we managed to set the tone early. Iwas proud that everyone was able to get some playing time.”

Chris Jackson was the top scorer for the winless Trojans with 5points. Amite County (0-10) is coached by Chris Parker.
