MEADVILLE – In a rebuilding campaign, Coach Charles Moore and his Franklin County Lady Bulldogs had a amazing year. His girls (24-5) captured the Region 7-3A regular season and tournament crowns. Through hard work and determination, the Lady Bulldogs marched far into the 3A State playoffs before being eliminated by Choctaw Central in South State semifinals.

     For this great accomplishment Moore has been named The DAILY LEADER’s Coach of the Year for the 2012 All-Area Girls Basketball Team.

     This is the third time Coach Moore has received this honor. He was selected as the Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2010.

     Moore is a well-known coach around the area. He’s been coaching for 28 years. He has coached boys’ teams in South Carolina: Ninety Six High School, McCormick High School and Neshoba High School. As a boys coach, he compiled a record of 209 wins and 136 loses.

     Coach Moore, a 1975 Franklin County graduate, returned home to coach at his alma mater. In his tenure as the girls’ coach, he has racked up an impressive record of 206 wins and 77 losses.

     In a recent interview, Coach Moore was asked what he enjoyed the most about coaching. “I really love to coach. It gives me the chance to watch the young players grow up and become young adults. It keeps me young at heart.”

     What did Moore like the most about coaching at Franklin County, “I enjoy the attitude of the players who are willing to commit themselves to the program. Their eagerness to help build the program that will compete each year in district races and state playoffs, continue Moore. “I also like to keep in touch with my former players.”

     Moore praised the Administrative support, “We have great support. The administrative allows us to run our program, which gives us the freedom to develop a successful program.”

     Moore is in his 10th year at the helm. He is assisted by Franklin County boys coach Chris Jordan. This past season, former player and Franklin County graduate, Ashley Weathersby helped as a student/teacher.

     Moore teaches math, advance math, trig, algebra and calculus.

     Moore is happily married to his wife, Joy, for 30 years this August. They are the proud parents of three children: Lindsey 27, Sam 23, and Jacob 14.

     Moore’s hobbies, outside of the world of sports, are spending time with family, movies, biking and swimming.
