Services for Evelyn Childs Baker, of New Orleans and formerly ofBrookhaven, are noon Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Greater New Zion M.B.Church in Hazlehurst with burial in the church cemetery. WilliamsMortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Monday from 1 until 6 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Baker, 68, died Sept. 15, 2009, at Ochsner Medical Centerin New Orleans. She was born in Hazlehurst on Nov. 28, 1940, toRobert Childs and Emma Durr Childs.

She was a housewife. She was a member of Greater St. AndrewsBaptist Church in New Orleans.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her brothers, HenryLee Childs and L. C. Childs.

Survivors are her husband, Willie Baker, of New Orleans; herdaughters, Linda Baker and Doris Brackett, both of Kenner, La.; herbrothers, John Lee Childs and Robert Lee Childs and wife,Augustine, all of Brookhaven; her sisters, Sarah Pendleton andhusband, Homer, and Mary Johnson and husband, Jerry, all of Wesson;her uncles, Wilma Durr and Lance Durr, both of Hazlehurst; fivegrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Bill C. Brister

A private service for Bill C. Brister, of Jayess, will be heldfor the family on Monday. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is incharge of arrangements.

Visitation is Sunday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mr. Brister, 54, died Sept. 18, 2009, at Lawrence CountyHospital. He was born on Aug. 8, 1955, to Clyde N. Brister andVelma Lambert Shumaker.

He was a merchant sales representative and business owner.

Preceding him in death was his father, Clyde N. Brister; hisgrandmother, Addie Mae King-Lambert; his uncle, Wayne Lambert; hismother-in-law, Dorothy “Dot” Renfroe; and his nephew, ZacharyBeard.

Survivors are his wife, Laraine R. Brister; his mother, VelmaLambert Shumaker, of Pearl; his stepfather, Lamar Shumaker, ofPearl; his brother, Gerry L. Shumaker and wife, LaTonya; hissisters, Bobbie S. Rankin and husband, Buddy, Mickie R. Beard, andJana S. Fitts and husband, Paul; and many nieces and nephews.

Clifton ‘Grinder’ Callender

Services for Clifton “Grinder” Callender, of Brookhaven, are 3p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drivewith burial in Rosehill Cemetery.

Mr. Callender, 59, died Sept. 18, 2009, at Countrybrook LivingCenter. He was born in Lincoln County on Sept. 25, 1949, to Johnson”Baby” Callender and Etta Franklin Callender.

He was a retired state worker. He was a member of PhiladelphiaBaptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his father; and his wife, EvelynKramer Callender.

Survivors are his mother, Etta Callender, of Wesson; hisstepchildren, Belinda Fauver, of Brookhaven, William White, ofMeadville, and Becky White, of Wesson; his brother, ClaytonCallender and wife, Faye, of Wesson; his sister, Janice Boling andhusband, Danny, of Brookhaven; his nieces, Carlene Montgomery, ofWesson, and Dana Case, of Brookhaven; his nephew, John Callender,of Wesson; nine great-nieces and great-nephews; and sevengrandchildren.

Mr. Magee, 86, died Sept. 15, 2009, at his residence. He wasborn in Lincoln County on May 7, 1923, to Lee and Mary MageeFields.

He was a retired truck driver for Earl Springs Moving Van Linesand Mayflower Moving Van Lines. He was a former member of DamascusM.B. Church and a current member of Holy Trinity M.B. Church. Hewas a United States Army veteran of World War II.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, W.D.Magee, Leroy Magee, Willie Magee, and John “Big John” Magee; andhis sisters, Jessie Magee Rucks and Mary Magee Robinson.

Survivors are his wife, Minister Carrie Lee Calcote Magee; hissister, Minnie Stewart, of Lansing, Mich.; his brothers, VersieMagee, of Brookhaven, and Joe Magee, of Lansing; and sixgodchildren.

Willie Joe Wells Sr.

Willie Joe Wells Sr., 74, of the Moaks Creek Community, went tobe with his wife of 54 years, Edna, on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, athis residence following a very lengthy illness. He was surroundedby his family who loved him dearly.

Mr. Wells was born Dec. 6, 1934 in Lincoln County to WillisWilliam Wells and Myrtis Green Wells. He was a retired carpenterand a member of Moaks Creek Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willis William Wells;his wife, Edna Phillips Wells; his brother, Harry Arnold Wells; andhis sister, Dorothy “Dot” Clark.

Mr. Wells is survived by his mother, Myrtis Green Wells, ofSummit; his sons, Willie Joe “Joey” Wells Jr., and wife, Carol,Mark Wells and wife, Cindy, and Toby Wells, all of Summit; hisdaughter, Lorraine Wells, of Zachary, La.; his brother, James Wellsand wife, Billie Sue, of Greenwell Springs, La.; his sister, WildaMoak, of Summit; his grandchildren, Jeremy Marbury, of Zachary,Derek Marbury, of McComb, Krista Wells and William Speights, bothof Hattiesburg, Jason “Bug” Wells, Donald Joe Wells, Hailey Wellsand Keith Wells, all of Summit, and Bradley Wells and BrandyLawrence, both of Brookhaven; his great-grandchildren, AlyssaMarbury, of McComb, Autumn Wells, of Wesson, Laney Wells, EmilyLawrence, and Summer Richardson, all of Brookhaven, and KennedyCorona, of Zachary; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives,and many good friends.

The family will be receiving friends Monday at Catchings FuneralHome in McComb from 5 until 8 p.m. and will continue Tuesday atMoaks Creek Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until funeral servicesthere at 11 a.m. The Rev. Mike Alexander will officiate. Burialwill be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joey Wells, Mark Wells, Toby Wells, JamesWells, Jim Wells and Jeremy Marbury. Honorary pallbearers will beDerek Marbury, Bradley Wells, Jason “Bug” Wells, Keith Wells and D.J. Wells.
