Jimmy ‘Jay’ M. Horn Jr.

Sgt. Jimmy “Jay” M. Horn Jr., died June 18, 2006, at Universityof California Medical Center in Orange, Calif.

Sgt. Horn, 25, was born in Brookhaven on Sept. 22, 1980. Hegraduated from Denham Springs High School in 1998. At the age of17, he joined the Marine Corps. He was assigned to the 2ndBattalion, 5th Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif. Aveteran of one tour of duty in Afghanistan and Uzbekistan and twotours of duty in Iraq, Horn also served tours in Japan, Guam, thePhilippine Islands, Thailand and South Korea.

A military service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 30, atRiverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif. He was recognizedwith full Military Honors. A memorial service will be held at 2p.m. Sunday, July 2 at Sylvarena Baptist Church in Wesson.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Martha Gaye Miller,and his great-grandmother, Nora Mae Welter Myers.

He is survived by his wife, Megan Horn of Ladera Ranch, Calif.;his mother and stepfather, Gina and Eddie Pettis of Vicksburg; hisfather and stepmother, Jimmy and Misse Horn of Houston, Texas; hissisters, Kelli Green and Jessica Pettis, both of Vicksburg, andKortney Horn of Mamou, La.; his brother; Eddie Pettis, ofLafayette, Ind.; his nephew, Brayden Green; his nieces; Reese Greenand Elizabeth Curry; his grandparents; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Miller,of Wesson, and Margaret Collins, Virgie Nevels, William Horn all ofVicksburg, and Daniel Hoffpauir of Mamou; his lifelong friend BradTonquis, of Denham Springs; and numerous aunts, uncles andcousins.
