The undefeated Hinds AHS War Dawgs invade Stone Stadium Fridaynight to meet the Wesson Cobras in the final Region 6-2A game ofthe regular season for both teams. The game kicks off at 7:30p.m.

Other area action features Brookhaven at Lawrence County,Franklin County at Tylertown, North Pike at Columbia, Hazlehurst atCrystal Springs, Terry at McComb and Jackson Bailey at South Pike.McComb and South Pike are celebrating homecoming.

Wesson, coached by Tommy Clopton, faces the No.1 team in the 6-2A region in Hinds AHS. The War Dawgs are (9-0,4-0) ranked No. 3 in the AP Class 2A Prep Poll this week. Bothteams will be in the state playoffs, starting next Friday, Nov.11.

In last Friday’s region action, Wesson (5-3, 2-2) fell to regionrival Madison St. Joe 16-13 while Hinds AHS was a 52-14 winner overLoyd Star.

“Hinds AHS will be the most athletic team we will face thisyear,” said Clopton. “They have become a two-dimensional ball teamthis year.”

The Cobras will have to deal with a pair of talented runningbacks in Josh King and Marcus McDonald. In the win over Loyd Star,King led Hinds AHS with 17 rushes for 133 yards followed byMcDonald with 124 yards on 14 carries. Each rushed for atouchdown.

Directing the Wesson running game against St. Joe with 14carries for 104 yards was Roy Williams. Quarterback MIcah Davisrushed 8 times for 67 yards and a touchdown. Davis completed 6 of 9passes for 76 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Mason Warren.

On defense, Phillip Freeman and John Michael Cliburn paced theCobras with 8 tackles apiece.

Franklin County, coached by Grady McCluskey,has its work cut out when the Bulldogs invade Tylertown to face theChiefs in a battle for the No. 2 spot in Region 7-3A. South Pike(9-0, 6-0) has taken the No. 1 spot in the region.

Tylertown (5-2) and Franklin County (5-4) are tied for secondplace with identical 4-1 region worksheets. The winner will gethome-field advantage in next week’s opening round of the statefootball playoffs.

In Franklin’s 45-6 win over Wilkinson last Friday, PrestonGriffith led the Bulldogs with 9 rushes for 91 yards and scored 2touchdowns.

Bulldog quarterback Jonte Marshall completed 2 of 4 passes for102 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Casey Hammack paced Franklin with 8 tackles.

North Pike, coached by Adam Barron, is comingoff a 27-26 Region 6-3A overtime win over the West Marion Trojans.The win improved the Jaguars region record to 1-4 and 3-5 on theseason.

The Jaguars are on the road again for a trip to Columbia to meetthe Wildcats in their final regular season region game. Columbiawas whipped 55-18 by the South Pike Eagles last Friday.

In the victory over West Marion, Milton Butler directed theNorth Pike running game with 14 carries for 106 yards. Nick Pittmanrushed for 61 yards on 9 carries and scored a TD.

Jaguar quarterback Robert Brown completed 4 of 14 passes for 40yards and ran for a touchdown.

McComb, coached by Randy Martin, clinched aspot in the Class 4A playoffs after stuffing Lawrence County 33-17last Friday. Martin’s Tigers improved to 4-4 on the season and 3-2in region play.

Terry (6-3, 5-1) smashed Florence 61-6 and faces a improvedMcComb squad Friday.

DeMorius Stewart directed McComb with 14 carries for 79 yardsand scored 2 touchdowns.

South Pike, coached by Randall Huffman, returnsto Magnolia to entertain non-region foe Jackson Bailey. Huffman’sEagles improved their unbeaten record to 9-0 overall and 6-0 inregion action.

Bailey, out of Region 6-3A, is 5-3 and 3-3 respectively. Baileyis coming off a 20-point, 47-27, win over region foe Richland.

Hazlehurst, coached by Willie Brown, hasbattled Copiah County rival Crystal Springs for many years in thefinal regular season game for both teams. Formerly a 4A team, theTigers dropped down to the Indians Region 6-3A this year. It’s aregion matchup as well as a game for county bragging rights.

Last Friday, unbeaten Hazlehurst (7-0, 5-0) pounded JeffersonCounty 35-8 and Crystal Springs (4-5, 3-2) stomped Raymond35-14.
