Hornets bury Enterprise

Loyd Star overpowered the visiting Enterprise Yellow JacketsTuesday night, sweeping a Division 6-2A varsity doubleheader. Inthe girls game, Laura Britt’s 17 points led the Lady Hornets to a57-34 triumph over Enterprise.

In the varsity boys game, senior center Rickey Barnes poured in28 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as the Hornets rolled to a78-66 win.

Loyd Star hosts top-ranked Hinds AHS Friday night for a divisionshowdown. The varsity girls game tips off at 6 p.m.

Enterprise invades Wesson for a division twinbill Fridaynight.

The Lady Hornets (18-5, 8-1) , coached by BillyVaughn, zoomed to a 35-14 halftime lead and coasted to victory.Shuntell Dillon followed Britt with 14 points and Shannon Chesternetted 12 before getting an early rest. Chester also had 8rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals and 2 blocked shots.

Junior center Haley Sones grabbed 8 rebounds and blocked 4shots. Britt and Emily Vaughn each had 6 rebounds. Alsha Johnsonhad 6 assists and 4 steals.

“Overall, we were not focused on our game plan but we playedwell in spurts,” said Vaughn. “Offensively, we didn’t play thatgood. We managed to do what we needed to win.”

Enterprise (9-13, 4-5) got 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 stealsfrom Lacey Orr. Tara Paden had 5 rebounds.

“Loyd Star is a good, athletic team,” said Enterprise coach JillNations. “We need to cut down on our turnovers.”

The Hornets (17-3, 8-1) started strong, racingto a 43-28 halftime lead. Loyd Star head coach Gene (Moochie) Brittwas able to substitute early.

Guard Ashton Fox followed Barnes with 18 points, 6 assists and 3steals. Ron Jones grabbed 10 rebounds, made 8 assists and 5steals.

“We played well the first half,” said Coach Britt. “We reboundedwell and we were able to move the ball around. It was good to getall of our players involved.”

Britt’s team owned a commanding 70-40 lead entering the fourthquarter.

Enterprise (2-21, 0-9), still hunting its first division win,got 22 points and 8 rebounds from Kevin Perry. Austin Everett added14 points and 9 rebounds. Sam Furr and Cody White each had 11points.

“We gave a good effort and we played well as a team,” saidEnterprise coach Josh Bass.

Junior Varsity Results

In the JV girls game, Enterprise posted a 23-18 win, led by AmyLambert’s 7 points. Andrea Roberson had 6 points and Sabrina Smith4.

Loyd Star got 4 points from Victoria Jones and 3 from LeahBritt.

In the JV boys game, Loyd Star beat the Jackets 45-35, sparkedby Damion Otis with 17 points and Joseph Shelby with 13.

Enterprise got 10 points from Thomas Allen. Sam Furr had 7points, followed by Taylor Everett and Kevin Perry with 6apiece.
